Responsibilities of Resident Engineer
  • Hardware Maintenance He will be responsible for maintaining Servers, PCs & Printers installed and will provide first level trouble shooting in case of any hardware breakdown. In case the equipment is under warranty, and first level trouble shooting is not sufficient, he will co-ordinate with the respective vendor for services. In case, system is out of warranty, he will co-ordinate with the respective repair vendor.

  • Software Support He will be responsible for installation, re-installation and trouble shooting of commonly used software like Windows Operating System, MS-Office & MS Outlook. He will also be responsible for maintaining any specialized software used by Population Council. However, the onus of training the RE on such specialized software will lie with Population Council.

  • Email Support The RE will provide support to users on email (downloading & uploading emails, configuring MS Outlook etc.). He will also be responsible for maintaining and trouble shooting email software on server (VPOP3 Email Server) and connectivity with the Internet (through leased line, dial up line etc.)

  • Anti-virus Support The RE will ensure regular download of anti-virus updates and distribution to all user PCs. He will proactively monitor user PCs to ensure that anti-virus software is installed properly. He will also ensure anti-virus software is installed on Server.

  • Network Maintenance The RE will ensure proper network connectivity within the LAN as well as external connectivity through the Internet leased line. Specifically, he will maintain the routers, switches, hubs and cabling.

  • Handholding Support He will provide support to users in case they face problems in using any hardware or software, accessing email or printing. He will provide special support to new people who join the organization so that they get familiar with the IT infrastructure and its usage at the earliest.

  • Backup He will ensure regular backups for data stored in the server. He will also help uses to get familiar with backup methods so that they are able to take regular backups of their own data.

  • Vendor Management The RE will be responsible for co-coordinating with various vendors such as : hardware vendors during warranty , repair vendors after warranty, leased line vendor (VSNL), consumables vendors (for ink cartridges, stationery etc.), vendors for new purchases.

  • Documentation He will be responsible for documentation such as : list of asset inventory, network diagram, vendor list and their contact details. He will also be responsible for documenting IT practices and procedures, which will be identified and standardized from time to time. Such documentation will eventually take the form of an IT Systems Manual for reference in future.

  • Reporting The RE will report to the designated person at Population Council and will provide him periodic reports. The format and frequency of such reports will be worked out mutually between Eagle and Population Council.
Help Desk. Establish a Help Desk to manage technical support problems, keep track of support reps and view which departments are making requests, and what types of problems are being reported.

Project Management. Use project management skills from Eagle to handle large projects related to installation, upgradation of hardware or software.

Asset Management. Increasing pressures on budgets has made it imperative for IT managers to have ready access to details of IT assets and relevant contracts, to be able to achieve real savings. Use asset management services from Eagle to purchase, implement, maintain and administer software licenses and hardware.

Availability Services
Hardware services. Covers support for Servers, PC’s, Notebooks, Printers, Plotters and other common peripherals from multiple vendors e.g. HP, Compaq, IBM, Acer, Wipro, HCL, Epson & TVSE.

Networking services. Covers installation and maintenance of enterprise wide networks comprising networking equipment from Cisco, Enterasys, 3 Com and structured cabling systems for multiple vendors.

Software services. Covers installation and support services on Operating Systems (Windows, SCO Unix, Linux), Mail Systems (MS Exchange, Sendmail), Databases (MS SQL, Oracle, MySQL) and Application Software.

Systems Health Check. Fine tuning and optimizing can dramatically increase the reliability of your network. A system health check, involves visiting the customer's site for a specified period of time to review, analyze, and optimize pre-specified product implementations, such as server hardware, server OS or email systems.
Our detailed systems health checks report includes recommendations for enhancements, upgrades and new configurations.

Preventive Maintenance. Regular preventive maintenance helps save time and money, safeguards data and improves performance. Covers physical clean-up to remove dust, checking file system for errors, hard disks for read/write errors, scanning hard disks and files for viruses and defragmentation of hard disk volumes.
